Compassvale Secondary School Basic RC Aeromodelling course

After 7 intense theory and flying lessons with a shaky start where most students were unsure and doubt their ability to even take to the skies, the 20 students at Compassvale Secondary School finally earned their Junior Flight Cadet Wings on 25th May 2011!

During this course, the students were put through 3 theory lesson where students are being taught how an aircraft fly, basic of how an RC aircraft works which will prove useful during the actual and simulator flights.

Hands on lessons were also being conducted where students get to see what goes in the aircraft and how the aircraft will respond using the transmitter on both the actual aircraft and on the simulators. During the simulator training, students practice their basic handling and have a feel of what they will be expecting during the actual flight. Although it was a little boring after awhile, student got a real kick out of flying some more advance models and laughing over how they crashed it!

When it was time for the actual flight, nervous students were put to fly. There was many near misses but with the help of the instructors, the aircraft was able to recover in time. After a few flying lessons, learning and laughing over each other mistakes, student got the hang of flying and some of them could even start to do stunts!! (Scaring our instructors at times)

From the team at W.T.F, we wish the class of 2011 all the best!!
Practice more and you will all be fine pilots one day!

Here are some photos of the course... Enjoy!

The event also attracted many curious and interested members of the public, students, pilots and even an ex F-16 pilot! Everyone at the event were given goodie bag loaded with many interesting stuff by the sponsors and there was even a free flow of hot dogs and coke!
The event started off at 1330hrs and guest of honour was chairman of NTU Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering school. The event spark off with a big bang and everyone was treated to a 4min aerial display by 2 experience pilots and their funjets that can fly up to a Max speed of 120Km/h! Thereafter, sponsors did some demo flying with helicopters and light aircraft before the main competition starts.

Competition saw many experience pilots and different aircraft types from gliders, jets to 3D aircrafts.
As for us We The Flyers group, we show case our unique formation flying and aerobatics display with our 3 self build F-15s. Our performance wow the crowd and they demanded a encore performance which eventually won us the second place in this event!

FPV Activities at Tampines CD Field - Stop!

Last friday, 21/01/11, IDA officials and vehicles were seen at the Tampines CD field scanning for FPV (First Pilot View) users. Possibly that the FPV’s frequency and high power output is affecting communications at Changi Airport. Forum users from daddyhobby.com, also shared that IDA officials had official dates and timings of FPV frequency interruption. Spot and STOP any FPV flyers! - Protect flyers, protect field!
